Hemp 101

Cultivation

This introduction into hemp provides the student with the science of the plant, how to grow and then harvest.

Having two college graduates as parents they instilled in me from an early age the importance of learning. My mother's family was from Colifax, LA and every summer I would spend months there gaining the experience of the farm where my mother was raised. Tending to our animals and fields was a way of life for us then and I often felt happy and proud of it.
Later in life my mother remarried and we bought a farm of our own. This is when I really picked up my passion for horses that would become very helpful later on. Fast forward and some bad choices, I was sentenced to 18 years in TX prison and served 10 years of that. This is when my farm experience came in hand. I became a field service inmate as a trustee and was sent to school to learn to take care of the horses . I spent years again tending the fields as I once did as a youth.
I left prison in 1999 and became a good salesperson in traditional work. Being a proponent of marijuana and confident in my skillset that I could grow anything, I learned all I could about the plant. Deciding to move to Colorado where marijuana is legal, I increased my efforts to grow more. I tried different growing methods and subsequently learned so much about the plant that I discovered the benefits of hemp.
Being a member of a large social group named Koinda, I was blessed to run into the right people who also had their own belief in the potential of hemp, land ownership and community. One of those people, Lamar Wilson, took the initiative and founded Sunjoined. We shared the vision to create ways for small black farmers to get revenue to thrive, save black land loss and expand the hemp market so that we as a people or the small guys can benefit from a commodity that we could now own.
